Carl Stamitz (1746 - 1801) a contemporary of Mozart and Haydn and the son of Johann Stamitz a violinist and composer, worked at the Mannheim court before travelling around Europe as a virtuoso violinist and composer. He wrote 3 wonderful cello concertos - charming, wonderfully crafted works full of beautiful tunes.

Here we present the Cello Concerto No.1 in G major, dedicated to Frederick William II of Prussia, a gifted amateur musician.
