Dvorak's first surviving work for this combination ofinstruments (the previous two compositionsare missing) dates from 1875 and documents the rapid development of thecomposer's talent. The manuscript score of Piano Trio in B flat major clearly shows that the workwas done witha sense of urgency, the ideas pouring out more quickly than he was able towrite them down.Dvorak was not satisfied with the first draft and, before it was published bythe Berlin-basedfirm Schlesinger (1880), he made a number of revisions to the score. Ouredition is basedon Schlesinger's publication and involved careful comparison with theautograph. This titleis part of the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
