Outstanding music editions
Three “Best Edition” awards for Bärenreiter
This year Bärenreiter is honoured to receive no less than three “Best Edition” awards. These awards are presented annually by the German Music Publishers’ Association for outstanding quality in music editions and music books.
At the prize-giving ceremony at the International Music Fair in Frankfurt, Clemens Scheuch, a member of the management team, was presented with the highly coveted certificates (photo).
The jury awarded prizes to the following publications in their respective categories:
Mike Svoboda / Michel Roth: Spieltechnik der Posaune / The Techniques of Trombone Playing (BVK 2367). The citation reads: “Bringing together performer and composer in a dialogue for the first time is an invaluable stimulus.”
With the “Kleine Choralvorspiele und Begleitsätze zu den Liedern des Evangelischen Gesangbuches” (BA 11243) by Gunther Martin Göttsche and Martin Weyer, the jury praised the quality of the simple compositions, intended mainly for non-professional church musicians: “the preludes by these two composers are so absolutely charming and original that they will be welcomed by professional church musicians too, and can provide ideas for players to improvise themselves.”
As well as this, arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suites, Partitas and Sonatas originally composed for violin or violoncello were awarded a prize. These were arranged by the famous Dutch harpsichordist Gustav Leonhardt for his instrument (BA 11820). The jury’s citation reads: “A fascinating insight into the ‘workshop’ of a great interpreter – and a tremendous addition to the harpsichordist repertoire for professionals and students alike.”
