World premiere of Phillip Maintz’s Organ Concerto in Brussels
On 17 September 2020 Phillip Maintz’s “de figuris”, a concerto for organ and large orchestra, will be world-premiered in Brussels. It will be performed by organist László Fassang and the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège under the baton of Gergely Madaras. The composer draws his inspiration for this work from the “Apocalipsis cum figuris”, Albrecht Dürer’s depiction of the apocalypse in fourteen scenes of 1498. The result is “a large, almost ‘symphonic’ tableau of flowing transitions and changes of perspective, as you might experience when you lose yourself flicking backwards and forwards, contemplating these woodcuts of the apocalypse.
