Huge applause in Lucerne. After having received the Roche Commission 2024, Beat Furrer's ((photo: Patrick Hürlimann/Lucerne Festival) new orchestral piece “Lichtung” was premiered on August 31 at the award ceremony. The composer himself conducted the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra.

The new composition takes a specific tonal idea as its starting point. “The refraction of light or a shimmer of air were the associations with the first sound of this orchestral work – out of this diffuse, oscillating surface, forms gradually condense – out of the tangle of various layers of whispering unarticulated noise, similar to different languages, suddenly contrasting specifics are juxtaposed and further developed into a dialogue.”

On September 5, 2024, the Tiroler Symphonieorchester, conducted by Zoi Tsokanou, will perform the Austrian premiere of “Lichtung” in Schwaz. From October 2 to 6, the Konzerthaus Dortmund invites you to the “Beat Furrer Island of Time”. An extensive showcase of his work is planned in five concerts.
