„No debate!“

Matthias Pintscher to become the new Music Director of the Kansas City Symphony in 2024

"Once Pintscher made his KCS debut this past March, there was no debate." These words from the Kansas City Symphony's announcement alone are an accolade, describing the outstanding resonance of Matthias Pintscher's recent debut as conductor of this orchestra in the Midwest. At the end of a two-year search, after a performance of works by Ravel, Scriabin and Ligeti acclaimed by audiences and critics alike, the KCS decided to engage Pintscher as the new Music Director. From autumn 2024, the KCS and its designated director will usher in the "Dream synergy", initially scheduled for five seasons. The conductor and composer wishes more concerts to take place in non-traditional venues, to connect music with storytelling, to enter into collaborations with Kansas City's visual arts community and to intensify historically-informed performance practice. For Pintscher, the new task follows on seamlessly from his tenure as Director of the Parisian Ensemble intercontemporain, which is coming to an end after ten seasons. (photo: Franck Ferville)
