Gounod and Dvořák

German Music Edition Prizes for Bärenreiter

For 2021/2022 Bärenreiter has been awarded the German Music Edition Prize “Best Edition” for no less than two editions.

In the category “Performance Materials”, the edition of Charles Gounod's opera “Faust” (BA08714-01) has received the coveted prize. It contains the original versions with spoken dialogues and has been edited by Paul Prévost. The two-volume edition was hailed by the press as an “editorial feat” (Opernwelt) and a “revelation” (Opera).

Antonín Dvořák’s “Biblical Songs” op. 99  for high voice (BA10425) and low voice (BA10426) have also been awarded the “Best Edition” prize, this time in the category “scholarly editions (individual editions)”. This song cycle is based on Czech psalm texts from the Kralice Bible and is the highlight of the composer's extensive song oeuvre. The Bärenreiter editions have been edited by Eva Velická.
