An artist of sterling integrity

Ernst von Siemens Music Prize Awarded to Beat Furrer

The 2018 International Ernst von Siemens Music Prize will be awarded to the Vienna-based Swiss composer Beat Furrer (b. 1954). In this way the Ernst von Siemens Foundation for Music is honouring an artist of sterling integrity and an œuvre of compelling force and great rigour. For many years Beat Furrer has left an indelible mark on modern music, whether as a conductor, as the founder of influential institutions such as Klangforum Wien and Impuls Akademie Graz, as a professor of composition or as a much sought-after teacher. Since 1999 his works have been published by Bärenreiter in Kassel.

Beat Furrer will receive the award for his lifetime achievement at Munich's Prince Regent Theatre on 3 May 2018.

This year's Salzburg Festival will place its focus on the composer under the title “Zeit mit Furrer” (Time with Furrer), including a survey of his music in four concerts from 31 July to 6 August.
