Popular fairytale opera in a new guise

Antonín Dvořák's “Rusalka” in a new Urtext edition

More than sixty years after the Jarmil Burghauser edition, a new critical edition of Antonín Dvořák's “Rusalka” (BA10438) is presented by Bärenreiter that brings the musical text of the opera up to today’s standards. Editors Robert Simon and Jonáš Hájek worked not only with the autograph and the copy of the score from which the premiere and many subsequent performances were conducted, but also with three handwritten piano reductions directly connected to Dvořák, but unknown to Burghauser, as well as with sketches and other sources.

The edition has been used for a concert performance by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague in September 2022 and staged performances in Toulouse (October 2022) and at the Royal Opera House London (February 2023). Numerous other opera houses will perform from the “new Rusalka” in the coming years.
