Bärenreiter Prizes at the Mozart Competition in Salzburg

The Arete Quartet from South Korea has won 1st prize at the 15th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg. The four musicians won the jury over in the final concert on 9 February with works by Mozart, Janáček and Hosokawa. The string quartet (photo: Christian Schneider) is studying with Christoph Poppen, Jaeyoung Kim (Novus Quartet), Quatuor Ébène and Eberhard Feltz.

The 2nd prize went to the Australian Affinity Quartet. This year Affinity will study in Madrid with Günter Pichler at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía and will perform at the ANAM Quartetthaus in London.

The Eden Quartet, also from South Korea, was awarded 3rd prize. The four young musicians are currently studying for a Master's degree in Berlin and Cologne. From April 2023 onwards, the quartet will continue its master programme in chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hanover with Oliver Wille.

All three ensembles were presented with the Bärenreiter Urtext Prize, a generous voucher for Bärenreiter sheet music.
