In Orpheus’ footsteps

Furrer world premiere in a Ticino tunnel

Beat Furrer's latest work "a sei voci" for six solo female voices will be premiered on 20 August 2017 and repeated on 27 August in the spectacular "Parco delle Gole della Breggia" in the Ticino (Switzerland) as part of a two-day musical pilgrimage “La Via Lattea”. The audience will follow in Orpheus' footsteps down to the underworld with music ranging from the 15th to the 21st centuries based on this Greek myth. The abandoned cement tunnel in the geological park (photo: Eugenio Castiglioni Studio CCRZ 1) is one of the extraordinary venues. It is here where Furrer's vocal sextet will be heard for the first time with the text of the Bacchantes choir from Alessandro Striggio’s “L’Orfeo” libretto. As the music which Claudio Monteverdi wrote for the Bacchantes Choir in his opera “L'Orfeo” has been lost, Furrer came up with the idea to compose new music for this text. Under the direction of Massimiliano Pascucci, the ensemble "Vox Àltera" will present this outstanding event.
