Facsimiles – preserving our cultural heritage
Facsimiles preserve valuable cultural assets, documenting original manuscripts for posterity. Without the need to handle the original autograph, a large readership can study the musical text, often gaining an insight into the composer’s working methods; something which is particularly important for scholars, conductors and performers who are studying the work. Not least, facsimiles are a source of fascination for all who love historic manuscripts and beautiful books.
Bärenreiter specializes in the publication of facsimiles, working in close collaboration with the libraries which hold the autograph manuscripts. The company’s Facsimile programme covers a wide spectrum, ranging from the 15th to the 20th century, from small editions for collectors to large, magnificent volumes. Major works of music history are published in the splendidly produced collector’s series “Bärenreiter Facsimile” and the facsimile edition “Mozart’s major operas”. Reprints of early printed editions complete the facsimile programme.
