Fauré’s Requiem in Urtext for the first time
Bärenreiter has now published an Urtext edition of Gabriel Fauré’s famous Requiem, a work which is sung worldwide. The edition by Christina M. Stahl and Michael Stegemann solves the complicated questions of evaluating the sources, thereby offering conductors and choral singers the opportunity of performing the popular work authentically.
The Requiem had a long period of gestation. The composer’s first version was limited to just five movements and small-scale forces with low strings, harp and organ. The work was then expanded several times culminating in the version for large orchestra of 1900. This orchestral version forms the basis of this edition.
The edition corresponds to the volume of the Complete Works of Gabriel Fauré (August 2011) published in 2010 by Bärenreiter. It is important to note that the vocal score is also compatible with the first small-scale version as well as the second chamber orchestra version.
