Passion and Easter
From Palm Sunday to Easter, from the Entry to Jerusalem through the Last Supper and the Crucifixion to the Resurrection and the Road to Emmaus: These nine days incorporate the core of the Christian message.
Composers of all times have taken on the dramatic history of salvation with utmost seriousness and often extraordinary musical means, spearheaded by Johann Sebastian Bach and his Passions. But also many other composers such as Orlando di Lasso, Lechner, Schütz, Telemann, Handel, Haydn, Loewe, Distler and Pepping dealt with the mystery of dying and the rebirth of Christ in their works. Buxtehude, Pachelbel, Telemann, Bach, to name but a few, created compositions for Easter.
