Beethoven's 9th Symphony as an app from Deutsche Grammophon and Touch Press in the Bärenreiter edition
The Bärenreiter edition of Beethoven's 9th Symphony, edited the by renowned musicologist Jonathan Del Mar, is the basis for a new app for iPhone and iPad, published by Deutsche Grammophon and Touch Press.
There are two video recordings of the Berlin Philharmonic, one from 1958 conducted by Ferenc Fricsay and the other from 1963 conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Two more video recordings are of John Eliot Gardiner with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique from 1992 and the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Leonard Bernstein from 1979. All recordings have been synchronized with each other, which enables the user to compare them at any one point in the work.
The App includes the complete orchestral score edited by Jonathan Del Mar and published by Bärenreiter. The score can be called up in several different ways to bring certain aspects to the fore. A host of additional information including accompanying texts and interviews supplement this medium which is novel to classical music.
The app is now available in the App Store in English and Japanes version for iPhone und iPad. For registered institutions this app is available at a reduced price for 20 units or more through the Volume Purchase Program.
