Of immense dedication and commitment
Music publisher Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle at 65
Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle celebrates her 65th birthday on 27 November. Since 1975 she and her husband Leonhard Scheuch have directed Bärenreiter-Verlag in Kassel, one of the leading classical music publishers in the world.
The music publishing firm was founded by her father Karl Vötterle (1903–1975) in Augsburg in 1923, and has been located in Kassel since 1927. Bärenreiter has established an international reputation, above all with its scholarly Complete Editions of the works of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Berlioz and other composers, the encyclopaedia Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart and with works by contemporary composers. The company’s publishing programme has expanded considerably over the decades. New Complete Editions, for example of the works of Rossini and Fauré, have been started. In addition, numerous Urtext Editions of works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Elgar, Debussy, Ravel and many other composers have been published.
Alongside her activities as a publisher, Barbara Scheuch-Vötterle is involved in various aspects of the cultural life of the city of Kassel and the region of Hesse.
