Matthias Pintscher becomes Music Director of the Ensemble intercontemporain
On 27 September composer Matthias Pintscher becomes Music Director of the French Ensemble intercontemporain. In a concert at the Cité de la Musique in Paris, he will conduct works by Bach/Webern and Jonathan Harvey, as well as the first French performance of his own ensemble work Bereshit. The Paris-based ensemble is regarded as one of the most outstanding ensembles for contemporary music. It was founded in 1976 by Pierre Boulez.
Pintscher, born in 1971 in Marl in Nordrhein-Westfalen, studied under Giselher Klebe at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold and with Manfred Trojahn at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. Pintscher is one of the most succesffull composers of the younger generation. One of his champions was Hans Werner Henze. In 2006 he was composer-in-residence at the Lucerne Festival. In 2012 he received the commission to compose a work from the Roche Commissions. Pintscher's works are published by Bärenreiter-Verlag. We congratulate him on this major new appointment!
