Legal Department / Licences and Royalties
The basic prerequisite for the realisation of any publishing project is the safeguarding of the legal position. The most important legal foundation is copyright law which enables the commercial utilisation of an author’s work. The legal department ensures the correct handling of all contractual and legal matters. This includes the drawing up of contracts between the publishing house and composers and editors, the granting of licenses to other publishing houses as well as the acquisition of licenses. Monitoring the observance of copyright law and the payment of appropriate remuneration for the use of a work by a user and intervention in the case of copyright infringement are other important tasks undertaken by the department.
