Editorial Department
The editorial department plays a key role at the beginning of the publishing process. The editors, most of whom are musicologists, evaluate incoming manuscripts, actively bring about particular concepts and projects and determine the contents of the publications. In this way they are responsible for the realisation of the publishing programme. They oversee the editions both in content and design up to the point of publication, find suitable editors if necessary and maintain contact with scholarly institutes in order to ensure that the editions, reflect the latest in musicological research. In the areas of contemporary music and the book publishing programme, there is also close collaboration with the composer or author. Incoming texts and manuscripts are edited in-house but proofread and corrected by external freelancers. There is close liaison with the production, legal and sales departments as well as with external companies in the areas of layout, setting and printing.
