New Schubert Edition
The “New Schubert Edition” (Franz Schubert: New Edition of the Complete Works, edited by the International Schubert Society) is the scholarly-critical complete edition of the works of the composer Franz Schubert (1797–1828). It has been published by Bärenreiter since 1964. It is anticipated that it will comprise a total of 85 volumes in eight series.
Each music volume contains the musical text of the work together with a detailed foreword and facsimile reproductions from the source material as an instructive addition to the edition. At the end of each volume, a section on sources and readings can be found. Detailed descriptions of the manuscripts, supplementary indices and corrections are listed in the separate critical commentaries which can be consulted at the editorial offices in Tübingen, the Deutsches Musikgeschichtliches Archiv, Kassel, the Austrian National Library, Vienna and the Vienna City Library.
