Bruder Singer

Like almost no other title, „Bruder Singer“, a collection of German folk songs, has contributed to the fame of Bärenreiter, over a long period. It was first published in 1951 under this title and includes 327 songs with text and melody. The subtitle refers to an earlier version which was first published in 1933 and expanded in 1938. This was sold as the song book “Lieder unseres Volkes”. Soon after 1951, Bruder Singer reached six figure print runs and was also approved for use in schools in German speaking countries. An edition with piano accompaniment, choral editions and a “Kleiner Bruder Singer“ followed.

The songbook as well as the piano and choral edition are still available today, even if the heyday of the little book has long since passed.
