  • The main series (music volumes) of the New Mozart Edition is completed during this Mozart anniversary year; the paperback edition of the NMA in 20 volumes is published.

  • Bärenreiter takes over the stage works publisher Henschel Musik, Berlin.

  • In Prague, Nakladatelství Bärenreiter Praha is founded and the privatisation of Editio Supraphon Praha begins.

  • After the German reunification, The New Bach Edition and the Halle Handel Edition, previously co-produced with the Deutscher Verlag für Musik in Leipzig, are now published solely by Bärenreiter.

The complete MGG in 29 volumes, 2008
  • The first volume of the new edition of the MGG (The Subject Encyclopaedia, vol. 1) is published. The co-production partner is J. B. Metzler, Stuttgart.

Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817–1890)
  • The start of the distribution of the complete works by the Danish composer Niels Wilhelm Gade in cooperation with the publisher Engstrøm & Sødring.

Orlando di Lasso (1532–1594)
  • The Complete Works of Orlando di Lasso is concluded.

1997

First recording of the Beethoven symphonies using the Bärenreiter edition
  • The new edition of the Beethoven symphonies edited by Jonathan Del Mar begins. It soon becomes a worldwide success.

1998

Bärenreiter Praha, 2010
  • Bärenreiter becomes a shareholder of Editio Supraphon Praha, the future Bärenreiter Praha. In doing so, a sales and marketing office for Bärenreiter is established which coordinates the complete distribution of editions to Eastern Europe.

  • The Subject Encyclopaedia of the MGG is completed with the publication of volume 9. The index volume is published in 1999.

  • Editio Bärenreiter Praha is member of the Bärenreiter group

    The first volume of the Biographical Encyclopaedia of the new edition of the MGG is published.
