Die Musikforschung (Society for Music Research) is a musicological periodical edited by the Gesellschaft für Musikforschung. It has been published by Bärenreiter since 1948 and appears four times per year. It contains scholarly articles on the history of music, music theory and music practice as a result of which the periodical has become the most important forum for German musicology. In an extensive review section, German and foreign-language books as well as scholarly music editions are discussed. Reports summarise important congresses and conferences.
Each semester an overview of selected lectures at German-speaking universities and conservatoires is included. Once a year, the titles of all new dissertations in musicology are published.
