Bärenreiter Urtext
What is a "Bärenreiter Urtext"?
All Bärenreiter sheet music publications from its own scholarly-critical editions now appear with a new seal of commendation: "Bärenreiter Urtext". This German publishing house has achieved fame through the high scholarly standards manifest in its Complete Editions of the music of Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Berlioz and other composers. Now the term "urtext" makes similarly high claims for its separate publications: performance scores, orchestral material, study scores, vocal scores and piano reductions drawn directly from the urtext. In other words, for Bärenreiter "urtext" is more than just a label; it is also a pledge and a guarantee - for sheet music that follows the authentic form of the text and the latest findings of musicological research, enabling readers to get as close to the composer's intentions as the surviving sources will allow. There are no arbitrary editorial additions, and the quality of the musical text is matched by an appearance on the page that will satisfy the most discerning eye. The volumes also reveal superb materials and workmanship and a classical design with high recognition value.
